Item Description

Almandine specimens are quite rare from Virginia. This sharp cluster of intergrown, reddish-brown dodecahedrons has high luster with partial translucence. Bright lighting reveals the rich cherry-red to wine-red colors. The former dealer label has Irish Creek in Rockbridge County as the locality, but MINDAT lists this as a tin-gold area. This is therefore possibly a very fine and rare almandine from an unverified Virginia locale. Complete all-around and essentially pristine, the small attachment is on the base. Valued by the former dealer at $250 for rarity and quality. He said it came to him from a local Virginia collection and it was admittedly in the presence of several flats of other, well known virginia specimens.
