Item Description

From rockhounds.com "The Mathis farm near Epworth in North Georgia {is} where grapefruit-size garnets can be found in colluvial/alluvial deposits. Although chloritized and highly oxidized, some of the garnets have retained their crystal form and are perfectly shaped dodecahedrons. The Georgia Mineral Society (GMS) and other local clubs have obtained permission in the past to collect on the privately owned property and have hosted field trips there for years. Unfortunately though, the elderly owners have recently had their phone disconnected and nobody has yet been able to contact them or anyone else to obtain permission to collect. As is stands right now, collecting there is on hold." This piece is an amazingly impressive, large, sharp, deep crimson red dodecahedron from this obscure locality. For the size (well over 4 inches across!), it is amazingly sharp and well-formed. If you collect Garnets, or obscure U.S. minerals, or even more specifically, minerals of Georgia, do not miss out on this one. Hard to find on the market, as I've only seen one other. PLEASE NOTE: This piece is heavy, and WILL require an additional shipping charge.
