Item Description

Sharp, highly lustrous, beautiful rich mottled wine-red almandine garnet crystals are very aesthetically set on the large 360-degree sculptural matrix of green chlorite schist and quartz-rich gneiss from this historic Austrian locale. The textbook pristine slightly translucent dodecahedrons reach 4.2 cm across. This is a classic and important locality for garnet dating back hundreds of years. The garnets are physically extracted from the enclosing schist and are lightly buffed to bring out the beautiful lustre and color. This excellent large specimen has fine display quality. Every turn presents a strikingly different aspect to this classic. Valued at $1500-2000.
