Almandine Garnet (Whitmore Coll.)

Item Description

Two, sharp, reddish-brown, almandine garnets to 2.5 cm are jauntily perched atop mica schist on this classic specimen from the Ziller Valley of Austria. The textbook dodecahedrons have striking and beautiful, gemmy, wine-red areas under strong light and these areas are even visible under normal light. The larger garnet is very lightly bruised, but is certainly a modest detraction. Old-time, excellent material from the Robert Whitmore Collection.
