Item Description
Almandine garnet from the famous old Wrangell Island location in Alaska has been a staple of any American mineral collection since the early 1900s, and justifiably so for the sharp, golf ball like garnets with a deep wine red color. This is a remote and difficult locality! They had a peak in the 1980s, as I recall some coming out in quantity, but now we see them only rarely in old collections. This is a sharp miniature with a well balanced crystal of just under an inch (2.2 cm) perched in schist. It is natural, not repaired as are so many. This is from the miniatures suite of the collection of Bill Panczner, author of Minerals of Mexico (1987) and a longtime collector and exhibitor in those years.
