Item Description
A 2.7 x. 2.3 x 2.2 cm sharp, lustrous, translucent, wine-red textbook almandine garnet dodecahedron with trapezohedral modifications is adroitly set on the top edge of the sparkly silvery-gray wedge of biotite schist. Backlighting brings out the beautiful cherry-red glow, that Wrangell Island almandines are known for. Essentially pristine, with only a bit of embedded schist. Wrangell Island almandines are among the most well-known Alaskan species and have been mined/collected since 1881. You don't see too many around today. Ex Richard Rossi Collection. Richard is a Senior Fellow of the Mineralogical Record. A classic and showy two-sided Alaska almandine garnet matrix specimen. The schist sparkly is much more intense in person.
