Almandine Garnet on Schist

Item Description

A pristine, sharp 3.1 cm almandine garnet dodecahedron beveled by trapezohedral faces is artistically set on the edge of a scuptural wedge of foliated biotite schist matrix. The lustrous garnet appears to be dark wine-red in normal light, but back lighting and bright front lighting brings out the beautiful cherry-red glow, that Wrangell Island almandines are known for. The impression on the schist matrix, where another garnet once lay adds character. A contact, with no damage, per se, is out-of-sight in the primary display view. A classic example of the species and locale.
