Item Description

Two textbook sharp almandine garnet dodecahedrons are aesthetically set in the mica schist on this excellent specmen from this well-known locale discovered in the early 1970s. The lustrous crystals are reddish-brown, but areas glow with cherry-red color under bright light. The impressive and uncommonly large crystal for the locale is 5.8 across. Both crystals are in great shape. A modest bit of noted corner and side wear are certainly only minimal detractions to this fine pair. Almandine specimens coming from "Fauske" may in fact be from Buviknakken (MINDAT). Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 13008. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
