Almandine Garnet in Schist

Item Description

Excellent example of the Almandine Garnets in schist, from the old metamorphic rocks in Manitoba. The primary Garnet is well-formed, lustrous, and 4.2 cm across. There is a bit of contacting along the back, but the crystal and the specimen present very well. There is a larger, and more contacted, Almandine on the reverse side, which is representative of how plentiful Garnets can be in a schist. Superb provenance, having been in the collections of both William S. Vaux and George Vaux Jr., and then passed to the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences.
