Item Description

Three flattened almandine garnet crystals are nicely clustered on the impressive, large and sculptural sheet of muscovite from an obscure, un-named mine near the Lawson Mine pegmatite. The large crystal is 1.0 cm across. The almandines are reddish-brown under normal light, but GLOW with cherry-red translucence, when backlit! The highly pearlescent muscovite sheet is mostly transparent. The narrow end is translucent. Collected by a Mr. Franklin, calculated 1995. Ex John Whatley Collection, a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022) and acquired in 2000. Classic and very showy large combination material from the pegmatites of the Spruce Pine area.
