Item Description

These specimens might be the most well-known / recognized Almandine Garnets in the world. The combination of the large textbook crystals with their strong red color on the greenish-silvery colored schist matrix is so eye-catching. This small cabinet features several fine quality, very sharp, large, well-formed dodecahedral crystals measuring up to 3.2 cm sitting on the classic matrix for the locality. If you collect Garnets, you have to have one of these in your collection as they iconic and a signature species from the Austrian Alps. The piece is in good condition, with no seriously major damage, but there are a few "bruises" / "rubs" here and there. Overall it's still a worthwhile specimen of this famous material from the Granatenkogel (Granaten = Garnets | kogel = Rounded Wooden Mountain Top).
