Almandine Garnet (classic ''floater'' crystal)

An impressive and good sized, single "floater" crystal of deep red colored Almandine Garnet from the famous Zillertal in the Tyrol, Austria (not from the Granatenkogel locality). The crystal features well-formed, lustrous trapezohedral faces on all sides, with some interesting etched forms on the edges where each crystal face meets. The piece is in great condition, with no major damage I can find. It's one of the largest single crystals I can remember seeing from this famous historic locality in the Austrian Alps. With strong backlighting, a vibrant intense red hue can be seen on the edges of the piece. If you collect Garnets or minerals from the Alps, this is a great example to add to your collection.
