Item Description

Almandine Garnet is an iron-bearing species, named in 1546 by Georgius Agricola (Georg Bauer) after the ancient gem cutting center Alabanda in Turkey. It's very likely that Almandine was fashioned into gemstones here, and was known for centuries before it was actually given a name. Almandines have some of the strongest red hues you'll find in any Garnet gem. This attractive gem hails from one of the better known gem producing regions in the world, as Kenya has been a source of good gem material for decades. The stone has a RICH red color with only very very slight inclusions and a "Round Brilliant" cut. A great opportunity for a Garnet to collector to add a beautiful little gem to their collection.
