Item Description

Sharp textbook crystals of Almandine Garnets from Wrangell Island, Alaska are well known classics and highly desirable. This elegant piece consists of five lustrous, wine red Almandine Garnets embedded in a contrasting silvery mica schist host rock. The sharp dodecahedral Garnet crystals, while only partial exposed, have a showy and dramatic appearance. The large Garnet perched at the top is 2.4 cm. There are also two molds or negative impressions in the schist where previous Garnets had existed. The piece is in excellent condition with some of the Garnet edges exhibiting a red fiery flash when backlit. The smaller Garnet below the large main crystal may actually be part of the same Garnet exposed on the side, but it is difficult to tell. A classic Almandine specimen that is very representative of the quality material from this noted locality. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl collection.
