Item Description
Here we have an important and rare USA and New Hampshire Almandine Garnet featuring good sized crystals with great form and good displayability from a historic locale. Several sharp, well-formed, dark wine red colored trapezohedral crystals of Almandine measure up to 3.0 cm across, and sitting atop silvery mica and beige Feldspar matrix. Good quality for the most part, though some of the crystals are not 100% complete where the piece was separated from the pocket wall. An impressive New Hampshire rarity like is hard to find on the market, and the pegmatite was first worked for mica in the 1800s and has been intermittently worked since. There is no telling when this amazing piece was collected, but it's certainly an older piece and would make a fine addition to any worldwide Garnet suite, a collection of New England minerals, or specifically pieces from Groton. From the collection of Lee B. Burnett of Morrison, Colorado. Valued $1,500-$1,800.
