Almandine (ex Willard Wulff Collection)

Item Description

The Sedalia Mine was a former copper-gold-silver producer, but it's best known for its Almandine crystals. This is actually a Dana locality, and has produced what are arguably the best known Garnets from Colorado. This piece features a reddish-bronze 1.7 cm Almandine with sharp textbook dodecahedral form sitting on mica schist matrix. This piece comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. The piece comes with one of the famous 3x5 index cards that states the specimen was personally collected by Wulff himself.
