Item Description

The Sedalia Mine dates back to 1780, and it's best known for its Almandine crystals. This is a lesser known locality, and specimens are very hard to find on the market. Here we have a 12 crystal set of sharp, dark red trapezohedral crystals of Almandine Garnet with sharp faces and good overall form. The specimens ragne from 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm up to 1.0 x 0.8 x 0.7 cm. The total weight of the lot is 43.85 carats. This set comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a small typed label from Wulff that simply says "Swarthmore, Pa."
