Item Description

The Sedalia Mine was a former copper-gold-silver producer, but it's best known for its Almandine crystals. This is actually a Dana locality, and has produced what are arguably the best known Garnets from Colorado. This smal lcabinet features a good sized Almandine crystal measuring 4.2 cm with sharp textbook dodecahedral form. It has this pretty "patina" look to it from a thin covering of mica that accents the deep reddish-bronze color of the crystal itself. Minor accenting dark green "Chlorite" schist can be seen on the base of the piece for a nice touch of color. The piece is complete all around, but there are few rough spots on the Garnet crystal, so it's not 100% damage free. From the collection of Gary Weaver (1944-2019), an electrical engineer who worked for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens, focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
