Item Description

Dating back hundreds of years, the Tyrol region of Austria has been a classic and important locality for Almandine Garnets. This pair of textbook Almandine dodecahedrons is perched on a gray-green schist, and these opaque, dark, reddish-brown crystals exhibit surface coloration of a wine-red hue. Aside from the removal of schist from around the crystals by physical means, this specimen is completely natural. Please note the fractures running along the surface and through the schist. The largest Almandine is an impressive 3 cm across, and it is complemented nicely by the smaller crystal.
