Item Description
Allemontite, originally named for the locality in France in 1772 (MINDAT), is the old synonym for stibarsen. It is a rare natural alloy of arsenic and antimony. This is an old-time, hefty, solid dark gray granular ore specimen from the historic silver mines at St. Andreasberg. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2947 and acquired from Dawson Minerals at the MSSC Show in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). She assembled a nice suite of classics and rarities from this famed district. See Page 401-402 of the Mineralogical Record St. Andreasberg Special Issue, May-June, 2017, Vol. 48, No. 3. Not pretty to look at, but a significant and rich old-time ore specimen from the famous locale. The last mine closed in 1910. Specimens are very uncommon from St Andreasberg.
