Item Description

Mineral specimens are very uncommon from this obscure REE-U-Th pegmatite in the San Gabriel Mts of LA County. A sharp and sharply terminated, tabular, moderately lustrous, 3.1 cm, mottled brown Allanite-(Ce) crystal is very aesthetically set upright on the shard of orthoclase matrix. Complete all-around nearly pristine. Part of the left edge is bruised, but is certainly acceptable in the context of this sharp rarity. Previously from the Willard Perkin collection or dealer stock (note the label in his 5.3 cm box). He is generally credited as the inventor of the "Perky box" for standard thumbnails display. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Her number was lost during the move. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A remarkable and rare older Allanite from this locale. A MUST for the species, locality or urban collector.
