Item Description
Allanite-(Ce), a REE with Cerium, is a member of the Allanite Group of the Epidote Supergroup. Lustrous, black to gray tabular crystals to 1.7 cm are nicely set atop the densely intergrown allanite blades with starkly contrasting calcite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 9638 and acquired from the Lidstrom's in August, 1982. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). This showy rich older piece comes from a large open pit uranium mine that was abandoned in about 1984.
