Item Description
Allanite-(Ce) is a REE (Cerium) member of the Epidote Group. The tabular crystals are lustrous, black to gray with a hint of green, and some of the crystals actually reach over 1 cm in size. The crystals richly cover the solid Allanite matrix in a nice jackstraw pattern. This showy, older piece comes from a large open pit Uranium mine that was abandoned in about 1984.
