Alexandrite (twin)

Alexandrite is the color changing variety of Chryosberyl, which gave way to the term "Alexandrite-type" - a specific kind of color change seen when a gem or mineral is exposed to different light sources i.e., indoor lighting and sunlight and changes its color from a warmer hue i.e., pink to a cooler hue i.e., green or blue. This piece comes from the classic locality at Carnaiba, Brazil and shows a beautiful reticulated partial "sixling" (actually a "trilling") twin or "geminado" sitting on schist matrix. In incandescent lighting, it shows a very dark purplish color, with a color change to a yellowish-green hue in sunlight. The color is only seen on the edge with good backlighting, but it's there. The piece is in good shape with no major damge and it's certainly an attractive worthwhile specimen of these well known twins. Priced in the inventory at $950.
