Item Description
Alexandrite is the varietal name given to the color change Chrysoberyl that was first discovered in Russia in the Emerald mines on the right bank of the Takovaya, a small stream east of Ekaterinburg in the Urals. The material was named after Czar Alexander II. The best material is still Russian, though modern mining in Brazil and India has produced some attractive gems. The color change seen in Alexandrite is often referred to as the "Alexandrite effect" and will often cause the material to exhibit a blue-green hue in sunlight and more a purplish-pink hue in indoor or halogen lighting. This three piece set features a matrix specimen of Alexandrite from the well known deposit at Masvingo (Fort Victoria), Zimbabwe. It hosts fairly well-crystallized cyclic twinned crystals on host rock matrix. The next item in the set is a lovely cat's eye "Oval" cabochon gem from India with a good, sharp "eye" running the length of the stone. The last item in the set is a wonderfully lively, bright gem from Brazil with nearly eye-clean clarity. All in all, you can't go wrong with this wonderful rough and cut trio. Priced at $2,500 in the inventory.
