Item Description
An unusual locality specimen featuring pinkish to white to colorless crystals of blocky Albite measuring up to 9 mm associated with Epidote (?) and "Chlorite" (Clinochlore) according to the label. More than likely the "Epidote" on the specimen is a species of Hornblende (Magnesio-Hornblende) as Epidote is not reported from the locality. The Albite crystals are very attractive with an interesting growth that shows opaque pink cores and transitions into a translucent white layer near the exterior and is even GEMMY (colorless) on the outmost layers of some crystals. You can also see a bit of polysynthetic twinning in the Albite crystals where they have a slightly staggered, semi-parallel growth. I've never seen a crumb of anything from this locality, so don't miss out on this attractive and interesting piece from the obscure locality in Norway. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9712). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
