Item Description

When it comes to Magnet Cove, people will primarily think of its famous titanium minerals like Rutile, Brookite and Perovksite, along with rarities like the Garnet species Kimzeyite. Few people think of a species like Albite when it comes to Magnet Cove. I had never even heard of these specimens until I was presented with a few of them from my good friend Don Heins who personally acquired the material years ago. They look like they should have come from a granitic pegmatite in my mind. The crystals have formed gorgeous and pronounced "rosettes" with defined, large, thick, bladed off-white colored crystals. The overall form makes for a very desirable specimen of what is a common Feldspar. How many of these specimens have you seen on the market? It would make a great addition to a Feldspar suite, a collection of U.S. minerals or just well-crystallized examples (or interesting morphologies) of common species. I'm calling them "Cleavelandite" as they are somewhat platy and clearly have formed in "rosettes" like Cleavelandite from other localities. The piece also shows a brilliant pink fluorescence under SW UV light!
