Item Description
A sharply terminated and crystallized, 1.7 cm, translucent, creamy-yellow albite variety oligoclase crystal is jauntily set in matrix of finely crystallized epidote and pastel-pink calcite cleavage rhombs on this OLD-TIME combination specimen from Norway. The red paint dot shows the way to the oligoclase crystal. The crystal exhibits pericline twinning and is a VERY RARE Norwegian classic. Iron mining started in the area by the 1840s and feldspar quarries in pegmatites started around the 1860s. There are also sharp, broken epidote crystals on the back of the specimen. Ex Websky Collection and comes with a fabulous 19th Century label with a hand drawn crystal sketch and Humboldt Museum of Berlin Collection. Certainly over 100 years old. The labels alone are just awesome, for style and to see what somebody thought of this study piece at the time. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock.
