Item Description
A fine quality group of sharp, very lustrous, bladed to blocky crystals of GEMMY Albite on matrix from this Alpine locality in Austria. I've never seen one of these in person, and they are certainly worth picking up if you collect European Minerals (or specifically Alpine Minerals) or just worldwide feldspars. The crystals on this specimen are not only incredibly well-formed, but I can see a few areas of polysynthetic twinning. Most of the crystals are thin tabular blades, but the largest crystal - which measures 1.4 cm - is rather blocky and stout. Lastly, a few of the crystals actually show a bit of "Adularescence" with a "pearly" blue sheen that is typically only seen in Orthoclase and other K-feldspars. Great quality and RARE on the market! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3026). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A hard to find piece of fine quality Albite from Austria.
