Alamosite with Melanotekite

Well-crystallized Alamosite, a surprisingly-simple lead silicate that is also extraordinarily rare in fine crystals, is one of Tsumeb's ultimate rarities; and it is even more rare to be in association with other minerals such as on this SUPERB combination piece. To begin with, clusters of sharp Alamosite crystals entirely cover one side of the matrix in what amounts to an amazingly rich specimen for the species out of all known specimens, aside from the display aesthetics and quality here. The sharp crystals, to 10 mm, have a good, adamantine luster that enhances the attractive, variable shimmering pearlescent color of the crystals. Scattered about are significant groupings of Melanotekite (small spherical black crystals), a lead ferric iron silicate. These black spheres provide as a dramatic contrast to the Alamosite, which creates an immediate visual interest. The pearly white masses along the top edge may very well be Kegelite, a super-rare, complex, lead aluminum silicate for which Tsumeb is the type locality (please note - a supposition, not analysed). A fabulous piece for the rarities it contains, as well as their quality, it actually gets better the closer you look. This is a phenomenal miniature sized specimen.
