Item Description
Here we have a wonderful example of the rare arsenic sulfide Alacránite, named after the Alacrán Mine in Chile in 1985. The mineral has only been found in about 2 dozen localities, and good display specimens are few and far between on the market. This piece is a showy and fine quality example filled with attractive orange-red colored micro crystals on matrix from the burning dump pile of the Kateřina Coal Mine in the Czech Republic. I've only seen a handful of these over the years, and this one is quite possibly the best example we've had to offer in the auctions. A wonderful colorful rarity that is seldom available on the market from any locality.
From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-187185.html
