Arguably the world's finest examples of the uncommon Mn-sulfide, alabandite, started coming out in 2012 and 2013 from the famed Tanzanite mines at Merelani. It has supplied another major surprise to the mineral world. These rival or surpass the superb alabandites that came from Peru's Uchucchacua Mine in 2008-10. This is a superb, sharp, lustrous, dark sub-metallic gray octahedron. Complete all-around and nearly pristine. Contacting, where other crystals once lay (mostly out-of-sight on the back) is noted, but have very little damage, per se. This is an exceptional and very fine single crystal example of the world-class find and locale. Valued at $750-1000.
