Item Description
The inside and outside of this large sliced and polished hollow colony of coral is dramatic, sculptural and colorful. You can see the striking elongated form of the ancient fossil colonial corals on the outside, that have been replaced or filled inside with botryoidal and banded chalcedony. The matte botryoides are a beautiful lavender nicely accented with contrasting yellow areas. The banding is tan to brown and some is water-clear! This is one of those unusual cases where biology meets mineralogy. This striking piece is from the Chet Lemanski Collection and is older material acquired in 1984. It is an exceptional example, that you will see of this type, for overall size and quality.
