Item Description

This unusually shaped, large, agatized Florida coral looks like an extinct horn coral from the Paleozoic Era (488-251 million years ago), but it's from the Oligocen-Miocene Epochs, as is the other piece this auction. The complete all-around ribbed growth form of the coral is apparent and the vuggy top resembles previous fossilized Florida corals with botryoidal interiors. These date from 38-25 million years ago. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. A sculptural specimen of biology and mineralogy.
