Item Description

A showy and excellent, large, sliced and polished hollow fossilized colony of coral from Florida. You can see the coral patterns on the outside - that have been replaced or filled inside with botryoidal and banded chalcedony. The botryoids have a variety of pretty pastel colors, from bronzey to lavender to creamy. This is a striking contrast to the water-clear, dark amber rims! It displays well from either side. This is one of those unusual cases where biology meets mineralogy. These date from the Oligocene-Miocene Epochs, 38-25 million years ago. Ex Richard Hauck Collection.
