Item Description

Superlative, very sharp, rare agatized aquatic gastropods from the Jurassic-aged (165 M.Y.), Brushy Basin Member of the Morrison Formation of Mesa County, Colorado. The richness and fossil definition is outstanding, as is the aesthetic placement on the sculptural, layered sandstone matrix, which has an incredible number of agatized fossil fragments and smaller gastropods (shell hash). Two of the snails are 1.5 cm long. Some of the fossils have a very pretty burnt-orange color and are translucent. Gastropod fossils of this quality and richness are very rare from this locality. The species is Viviparous reesidei and this is the 'Type Locality'. UNUSUAL AND INTERESTING OLD COLORADO MATERIAL! We bought a small, old lot of these at Munich from an old collection...otherwise, nearly impossible to attain and acquire! This is the best and richest from the lot. Every side presents a different view!
