Item Description
Afghanite is a rare complex alumosilicate, and one of the more obscure members of the Cancrinite group. The species is notably rare to find in fine quality display specimens. Typically Afghanite crystals, no matter how saturated the color may be, are opaque, and a very dark blue color. This specimen is a notably different color and style, as it hosts several crystals of Afghanite that range in color from a medium blue shade to a soft yellowish-green hue. Additionally the crystals are visibly translucent, which is not common in Afghanites when they reach this size. The largest individual crystal measures 4.2 cm, and they are sitting on massive Calcite matrix. There are a few contacted areas, so the piece is not pristine, but the odd coloring and good internal translucency make it a very desirable and unique display specimen of a species that is only found in good sized specimens from one part of the world.
