Item Description
Named for its host country, and rare in discrete crystals elsewhere, afghanite at Type Locality Sar-e-Sang, reaches its zenith for the species. A 4.1 cm, rich blue, moderately lustrous, doubly terminated afghanite crystal is nicely perched on white marble with smaller crystals. The ligher colored zone is the gemmier interior revealed by contacting, but with no damage, per se. A showy and rare member of the feldspathoid group of minerals. Two sides on the back have been sawed to enhance the display quality.
