Afghanite on Calcite

The two sharp afghanite crystals sit beautifully on the marble matrix, and both the Afghanites and the Calcite in the marble are fluorescent. Excellent aesthetics! As well, it is not full of glue and food coloring, as are some larger crystals and earlier finds. The second wave of Afghanites around 2010 or so to come from Sar-e Sang, of which this is one, finally brought to fruition the promise of high-quality specimens from earlier finds near the surface of more pale and weathered specimens in the early 2000s. This pair of razor-sharp crystals has all you could want: intense blue color, excellent form, very good luster, and the doubly-terminated Afghanite is 2.2 cm long.
