Item Description

Afghanite from this ancient Lapis Lazuli deposit ONLY come in good form from here, and so they are not only the biggest but the best of species. This is a crystal of large size, about 2 inches tall, with exceptional and sharp form to it. The thickness is amazing - about an inch thick in each dimension, really robust! You would be hard pressed to find a bigger, sharper crystal than this. Unlike most of them where you have to worry about overcleaning, polishing, or funny business, this retains its natural surface and has not been (over) cleaned in a lab. It is associated with minor pyrite in marble. This is an important locality and species specimen, with a shape and size that demands respect. The back is sawed, which is a negative slightly, although it is out of sight. From the Gene Meieran collection.
