Item Description

Afghanite specimens are rather difficult to find in fine quality display specimens, with excellent crystals on matrix, and the only significant pieces are those from Ladjuar Medam, Afghanistan. The species a rare complex alumosilicate, and one of the more obscure members of the Cancrinite group. This specimen hosts two sharp, well-formed, lustrous, hexagonal crystals of Afghanite measuring up to 2.0 cm on massive off-white Calcite matrix. When backlit, the crystals show a bit of translucency with a rich Sapphire blue color that ranges into more of a soft sky blue shade. A very good display specimen of a species that is only found in good sized specimens from one part of the world. If I had this one on the shelf at a show, I would price it around $1,800.
