Afghanite (excellent crystals) (ex Obodda)

Item Description

This complex alumosilicate is one of the more obscure members of the Cancrinite group, especially in fine quality specimens. Typically Afghanite crystals, no matter how saturated the color may be, are opaque, but the crystals on this piece are much gemmier than the average Afghanite. This specimen hosts a few sharp, well-formed, hexagonal crystals of Afghanite measuring up to 1.7 cm jutting out of massive white Calcite matrix. When backlit, the free-standing crystal glows with a lovely gemmy Sapphire blue color. A very good display specimen of a species that is only found in good sized specimens from one part of the world.
