Item Description
Experienced collectors will tell you that the finest Aegirine crystals have been found at Mount Malosa in Malawi. Aegirine is a Pyroxene species, typically found in dull examples, but you would be hard pressed to find sharper or more lustrous crystals than those from Mount Malosa, and they're notably larger than other Aegirines from various world localities. This piece features a few good sized, thick, sharp, highly lustrous, dark greenish-black prisms of Aegirine measuring up to 6.9 cm, aesthetically flaring off of cream colored Orthoclase matrix. There is some roughness along the prism faces where there was interrupted growth in the pocket, but the two main Aegirine crystals are both in very good condition. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-212131.html
