Item Description

A hard to find association specimen from the Notklamm inside the Hohe Tauern National Park in the Austrian Alps. Specimens are rather hard to find from this locality on the market, and this piece has the added appeal of featuring fine quality twinned Adularia with tiny lilac Apatite crystals. The Adularia (a variety of K-Feldspar) twin features excellent, sharp, lustrous, translucent, porcelain-esque crystal faces and measures 5.5 cm long and it is associated with many smaller accenting white Adularia crystals along with a few little GEMMY / "jewel"-like crystals of Apatite with a soft lilac hue measuring up to 5 mm sitting on matrix. The piece displays beautifully as you can see from the photos. I have only seen a handful of Adularia crystals from this locality, and this might be the best one, especially because of the Apatite association. Of all the European Alpine countries, the specimens from certain places in Austria are among the most distinctive, and this piece is a great example of said material. This piece comes with a label from the collection of Professor Johann Zenz of Gloggnitz, Austria which states the piece was collected in 1978.
