Item Description
Wow, how often does once see a specimen offered from New Zealand ??? This "Alpine-type" specimen is from the famous Franz Joseph Glacier on the South Island of New Zealand, and is the only one I've seen from this area. The glaceir is unique in the fact that it descends from the Southern Alps to less than 300 metres (980 ft) above sea level, amidst the greenery and lushness of a temperate rainforest. This piece features several sharp, lustrous, translucent, soft "smoky" colored, "pearly" blocky crystals (including some penetration twins) of Adularia associated with GEM quality, water-clear Quartz crystals and minor greenish "Chlorite". The largest crystal measures 1.1 cm. If you collect minerals from obscure localities, or if you have a Feldspar suite, or even if you collection Alpine-type minerals from around the world, do not miss out on this incredibly hard to find specimen. From the collection of Harold Urish, who obtained the piece in Tucson 1980 in exchange with a New Zealander. Even though it's a feldspar specimen, what kind of value can you put on such an interesting specimen?
