Item Description

A cool specimen of Adularia (Moonstone) from the famous Mörchnerkar locality in the Austrian Alps. This area is best known for its attractive Amethyst scepters, but we've seen a handful of Moonstone specimens over the years as well. This piece features a massive chunk of pearly white Adularia, and when the piece is rotated in the light, one can see the classic "adularescence" effect, which causes a milky blue sheen to appear on the surface. Minor black schist is attached to one side of the specimen. Moonstone shows a silvery or bluish iridescence that is caused by the intergrowth of two different types of feldspar with different refractive indexes. A cool specimen for any fan of Feldspar. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased.
