Item Description

A lovely specimen from the famous Lavrion District in Greece, one of the oldest mining districts in the world. The UNESCO website states, "The systematic exploitation of the mineral wealth of the area began during the transitional period from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age (3200 BC). In the Bronze Age, the mines of Lavrio supplied the great civilizations of the Aegean (Cycladic, Minoan and Mycenaean) with silver, lead and copper". This piece hosts a vitreous, apple green colored aggregate of Adamite measuring 1.6 cm across, sitting atop a layer of smoky colored Calcite on matrix. No damage and quite showy.
Collected in 2017, and from the collection of Chritos Spiromitros.
