Item Description
An impressive big cabinet display specimen of vivid blue-green colored semi-spherical aggregates of Adamite (var: Copper-bearing) on matrix from the ancient Hilarion Mine in Lavrion, Greece. Lavrion is one of the great old world mining localities, and the UNESCO website states, "The systematic exploitation of the mineral wealth of the area began during the transitional period from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age (3200 BC). In the Bronze Age, the mines of Lavrio supplied the great civilizations of the Aegean (Cycladic, Minoan and Mycenaean) with silver, lead and copper". In this case of this specimen, it's amazing what a little copper can do, or maybe a decent amount of copper, as it has some of the strongest blue-green color you'll see for the species. The piece is best viewed under magnification, and we've photographed it with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. The piece sits beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay.
