Adamite (superb xls) ex Campbell

Item Description

This cluster of blocky, pyramidal crystals create a nice example of Ojuela Adamite. The stout Adamite crystals are variegated yellow and mauve colored displaying characteristic high luster for the species and are nicely terminated. The Goethite matrix partly envelopes the bright Adamites and shows them off well and with great contrast. In addition to the eight or so major crystals in the primary group, there are numerous smaller, prismatic crystals adjacent to the main group at the interior of the piece, one of which shows some minor contacting at the periphery. The combination of yellow and mauve colored crystals set this piece apart from other Adamite specimens. Under shortwave UV light the tips of the large Adamites fluoresces a bright neon green-yellow. A special old Mexico classic from the worldwide suite of the collection of our friend and staff mineralogist Dr. Tom Campbell, co-author of the Encyclopedia of Minerals as well as a professional exploration geologist for pegmatites and metallic ores. Tom's collection is heavily balanced towards worldwide pegmatite minerals and unusual crystals, so you can see why this would have been kept for decades.
