Adamite (rare pink color) (ex Chet Lemanski Collection)

If there species that is best known from a single locality, I think the Adamites from the famous Ojuela Mine are certainly near the top of the list. This is some of the most beautiful and classic material for the species, occurring in wide range of colors. This particular specimen features a coverage of fine quality, lustrous, gemmy, beautiful light pink colored, "wedge"-shaped crystals measuring up to about 4 mm on gossan matrix. I believe the color is due to cobalt content, but it's only a slight amount, so you can see there is a gentle pink coloring in areas, but the crystals have retained their original yellow hue at the base. This material is no longer being mined and will go down as some of the finest quality and color Adamite in history. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
